The Metz TSC-50 Hotshoe Sync Adapter for Sony is designed to sit between the cameras hotshoe and a dedicated flash to provide a flash sync connection, where the camera does not support one, enabling you to fire external camera and studio flash via a standard sync lead. At the same time an on-camera dedicated flash can be used retaining the full ADI mode. This adapter is designed for the Sony Auto Lock type flashgun (Minolta style) not the newer Multi Interface Shoe fitting.
