Designed and executed for the most demanding types of photography, the Sigma 150-600mm 5-6.3 DG HSM OS Sports lens is the new standard for telephoto zooms. Boasting 2 FLD glass elements (performance equal to fluorite) and 3 SLD glass elements, the new Sigma 150-600mm Sport produces incredibly sharp images y through the entire zoom range. Chromatic aberration is controlled at the long end of the focal length through the optimized design of the glass elements and a dust and splash proof construction ensures a high degree of durability.
An updated optical stabilizer (OS) features an accelerometer for improved panning photography both horizontally and vertically, essential for birding, wildlife and motorsports photography. The Sigma 150-600 Sports also touts a new zoom lock switch that can be locked at any focal length and a new manual override (MO) switch is incorporated as an option which is activated by rotating the focus ring while using the autofocus. This state-of-the-art lens is equipped with advanced Sigma technology including an optimized, quieter AF, water/oil repellent coating on front and rear elements and Mount Conversion service compatibility. As with all Sport line lenses, the Sigma 150-600 works with the Sigma USB dock for maximum customization allowing for firmware updates and adjustments to the focus limiter, AF speed and OS view.
Accelerator sensor enables panning photography both in vertical and horizontal position.
The OS (Optical Stabilizer) function using an accelerator sensor has been incorporated to ensure high accuracy. OS Mode 1 is suitable for general photography, and Mode 2 is ideal for panning shooting for motor sports etc. With Mode 2, the accelerator sensor works effectively to minimize blur while shooting by detecting whether the camera is positioned vertically or horizontally.
*This lens cannot be used on film SLR cameras with the exception of the Nikon F6, Canon EOS-1V.
*Effect of Mode 2 is limited to panning shooting in horizontal direction.

Since telephoto zoom lenses are often used under very challenging situations, this model has crystalized all the possible qualities and features to achieve the best optical and action-capture performance. While combining high portability and durability, this high-performance hyper-telephoto zoom lens from our Sports line offers outstanding rendering capabilities. Its versatility provides better flexibility for wider shooting scenes, and the high-performance definitely stimulates photographers' artistic expression.
In addition to the highest levels of optical performance and photographic expression, SIGMA's new Sports line of lenses offers the kind of action-capture performance that precisely executes the intentions of the photographer. Uncompromising optical performance and photographic expression allow the photographer to shoot fast-moving and distant subjects, while exceptional functionality makes possible excellent shots even in the most challenging of situations. Fully customizable, it allows the photographer to create his or own specification. It is an ideal choice for photographing many different subjects; birds, wild animals, airplanes, motorsports, and even portraits. And SIGMA's exclusive software makes the lens extremely easy to customize.
Chromatic aberration in particular, which could be visible especially towards the telephoto end even when stopped down, is corrected by the optimized design of glass elements including FLD lenses.
* FLD glass is the highest level low dispersion glass available with extremely high light transmission. This optical glass has a performance equal to fluorite glass which has a low refractive index and low dispersion compared to current optical glass. It also benefits from high anomalous dispersion. These characteristics give excellent correction for residual chromatic aberration (secondary spectrum) which cannot be corrected by ordinary optical glass and ensures high definition and high contrast images.
From an early stage in the lens design process, flare and ghosting have been measured to establish an optical design resistant to strong incident light sources such as backlighting. SIGMA's Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting to help photographers produce sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions.
The degree to which light is refracted by glass depends on the light's wavelength. This fact causes different colors of light to focus at slightly different points. The result is chromatic aberration, the color fringing that is particularly noticeable in telephoto lenses. Most chromatic aberration can be removed by combining a high-refractivity convex lens element with a low-refractivity concave element. Yet residual chromatic aberration known as “secondary spectrum” may still remain. To minimize this secondary spectrum, which can be a serious issue with conventional lenses, SIGMA lenses feature up to three types of exclusive low-dispersion glass offering superior performance: ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion), SLD (Special Low Dispersion) and FLD (“F” Low Dispersion). In particular, FLD glass offers ultra-low dispersion in combination with high transmittance and the anomalous dispersion characteristics of fluorite. Meticulous deployment of these types of exclusive low-dispersion glass and optimization of power distribution gives SIGMA lenses superlative image rendition undiminished by residual chromatic aberration.
Since telephoto zoom lenses are often used under very challenging situations, this model has crystalized all the possible qualities and features to achieve the best optical and action-capture performance
A comfort model of Contemporary line incorporating the main specifications of 150-600mm F 5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Sports is also available.
It is dust and splash-proof, and designed for higher durability. It is able to meet the demands that professional photographers would require in challenging shooting conditions, such as in the rain.
The OS (Optical Stabilizer) function features an acceleration sensor to ensure even higher precision. Two OS modes are available: Mode 1 for general photography and Mode 2 for motor sports and other applications requiring panning. In Mode 2, the acceleration sensor teams up with the Intelligent OS and its updated stabilization algorithm to deliver effective stabilization while you move the camera horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—regardless of the position of the lens. This feature helps ensure effective panning and outstanding capture of moving subjects.
Forefront and rear lenses incorporate a water and oil-repellent coating that allows water to be wiped away easily and prevents oil and fat from sticking to the surface, even in challenging shooting conditions. At the same time, the maintenance of the lens surface becomes easier.
Conventionally it is considered essential to leverage the qualities of metal and polycarbonate in camera and lens layout design. A first for the industry, the barrel of the new series of SIGMA lenses features a new TSC (Thermally Stable Composite)* that offers minimal thermal shrinkage combined with exceptional hardness. It also offers 25% greater elasticity than polycarbonate. Since its thermal shrinkage is low, TSC matches well with metal parts, further contributing to the high-precision construction of the lens.*TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) offers thermal expansion characteristics similar to those of aluminum. Parts made with TSC deform less, making possible lens construction of extremely high precision. As compared to polycarbonate containing 20% glass, a commonly used material, TSC offers approximately 70% higher elasticity. As compared to polycarbonate containing 30% glass, it offers 25% higher elasticity. (Comparison is between SIGMA-produced components.)
The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures high speed and quiet AF. With the further enhanced AF algorithm compared to previous models, continuous AF (AF-C) improves the focusing efficiency by approximately 5%.
It is an ideal choice for photographing many different subjects; birds, wild animals, airplanes, motorsports, and even portraits.
The tripod socket is newly designed since hyper-telephoto zoom lenses like this one which has 600mm tele end often need a monopod or tripod for shooting. While ensuring that the tripod socket is large and stable, it’s possible to click the position at every 90゜to make the change of shooting position from and to vertical and horizontal much easier. By attaching the supplied strap, the lens can be carried safely without putting unnecessary pressure on the mount of the camera.* Tripod socket cannot be detached from the lens
In addition to AF/MF, MO (Manual Override) is incorporated as one of the options of the focus mode switch. By setting it to the MO position, it switches to manual focus by rotating the focus ring even during continuous AF. With AF position, standard full-time manual focus is available. Using the optional SIGMA USB DOCK, it is possible to adjust the MO position’s sensitivity to switch to manual focus.
The new zoom lock switch enables the zoom ring to be locked at any focal length. It can be fixed at the photographer’s desirable focal length, which allows stable shooting whether the lens is positioned upward or downward. It also helps during long exposure photography.
This lens is optimized to allow the zoom ring to expand/contract smoothly in order to immediately adopt without adjusting the holding position, even to a sudden change in angle-of-view. The lens front is designed to ensure easy handling in such situations.
The newly designed SIGMA TELE CONVERTER is compatible with digital cameras, and when mounted between the lens and the camera body, it can increase the focal length of the lens by the power of 1.4 while SIGMA TELE CONVERTER TC-2001 can increase the focal length of the lens by the power of 2.
Tele Converters that are newly designed to match the new lens line-ups (optional) can be attached. The addition of SIGMA’s TELE CONVERTER TC-1401 or TELE CONVERTER TC-2001 produces a MF 210-840mm F7-9 hyper-telephoto zoom lens or a MF 300-1200mm F10-12.6 hyper-telephoto zoom lens respectively. In addition, when SIGMA TELE CONVERTER TC-1401 is attached to cameras that are compatible with AF at F8, it is possible to shoot with AF. *When shooting subjects with low contrast or luminosity value, focus may not be spot on the subject.
SIGMA TELE CONVERTER TC-1401 incorporates 1 SLD and SIGMA TELE CONVERTER TC-2001 incorporates 2 SLD glass elements, which ensures high-performance image quality.
There are three requirements for outstanding lenses: fine design, precise manufacturing and inspection that ensures compliance with all specifications. SIGMA lenses are born of well-thought-out design concepts and sophisticated, advanced Japanese manufacturing technology; the final clincher is our lens performance evaluation. We used to measure lens performance using conventional sensors. However, we've now developed our own A1* proprietary MTF (modulation transfer function) measuring system using 46-megapixel Foveon direct image sensors. Applying this system, we check each lens in our new lines at our Aizu factory, our sole production site. Even previously undetectable high-frequency details are now within the scope of our quality control inspections, allowing us to deliver consistently high lens performance. Our MTF system has the capability to test lenses for full-size 20+ megapixel 35mm digital SLR cameras.
The 46 effective megapixel (4,800 × 3,200 × 3 layers) and 44 recording megapixel (4,704 × 3,136 × 3 layers) 23.5 × 15.7mm APS-C X3 direct image sensor captures all primary RGB colors at each and every pixel location, ensuring the capture of full and complete color. Using three silicon-embedded layers of photo detectors, stacked vertically to take advantage of silicon's ability to absorb red, green and blue light at different respective depths, it efficiently reproduces color more accurately, and offers sharper resolution, pixel for pixel, than any conventional image sensor. Since color moiré is not generated, the use of a low-pass filter is not required, meaning light and color, generated by the 46-megapixel APS-C X3 direct image sensor is captured with a three-dimensional feel.
Optimizing quality with our integrated production system, SIGMA is focused on making things right, with our own hands and our own techniques. We are now one of the very few manufacturers whose products are solely "made in Japan." We like to think our products are somehow imbued with the essence of our homeland, blessed as it is with clean air and water, and focused, hard-working people. We pride ourselves on the authentic quality of SIGMA products, born of a marriage between highly attuned expertise and intelligent, advanced technology. Our sophisticated products have satisfied professionals and lovers of photography all over the world, because our manufacturing is based on genuine craftsmanship, underpinned by the passion and pride of our experts.
For our new product lines, we have developed exclusive SIGMA Optimization Pro software that allows the user to update the lens firmware and adjust the focus position and other parameters. The user will be able to connect the lens to a computer with a special SIGMA USB DOCK and use easy-to-operate on-screen controls to create personal lens specifications. The focus limiter will be customizable on this lens.
